Qualified Instructor (QI) Program
The CECTH Qualified Instructor (QI) Training Program is held in the highest regard by insurance carriers (liability), employers and adjunct certification programs. The rigorous program is held in three phases: Phase I is a virtual on-line training to be completed at the registrant's own pace within the specified time limits. Phase II is a four-day workshop with hands-on opportunities utilizing role playing and other practical applications; and Phase III is the final certification held on-site allowing candidates to demonstrate their skills in a favorable setting. For volunteers, parents, support staff, and medical and mental health professionals who are interested in becoming more knowledgeable about EAAT, the Phases can be taken at the Instructor-in-Training level. Candidates at this level do not demonstrate riding skills nor do they proceed to Phase III for certification. Individuals intending to be full certified can test to the Instructor or the Master Instructor levels and must demonstrate knowledge of riding skills via a video riding test. CECTH has certified therapeutic riding instructors from all over the United States and abroad.

The Qualified Instructor Training Program (QI) is designed to be one part of a therapeutic riding instructor's education and certification process. Certification is offered at three levels: Instructor-in-Training, Instructor and Master Instructor Therapists, program administrators, medical and mental health professionals, riding instructors, volunteers, parents and other interested individuals whose goal is to increase their knowledge about therapeutic riding will find the Instructor-in-Training Level a good source for continuing their education.
It is impossible to provide all of the information and practical application required to become a certified therapeutic riding instructor over the course of Phase I and Phase II (4 days). It is expected that the Instructor Level Candidate should already possess a base knowledge of horses, riding, disabilities and teaching.
Instructors who have accumulated sufficient teaching hours and possess a broad-based level of knowledge who are interested in becoming the "teachers-of-the-teachers" may want to pursue the Master Level certification.
CECTH issues the QI Certificate to individuals who have successfully completed the QI Training Phases I and II and achieve a passing score on the Phase III evaluation -- an on-site evaluation conducted by a team of QI evaluators at the instructor's own program (or program of choice).
